a visual and interactive web designer
I'm a web developer with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. I began my journey as a psychology major, working and gaining experience in mental health at various hospitals and rehab facilities. While trying to find my footing in the field, I felt like something was missing. I liked what I was doing, but didn't love it. I decided to take a bunch of different classes as electives to try to find something that interested me. I took a Microsoft Office class, and in the class was a little bit of programming with Visual Basic. I designed a simple Pong game, and I was hooked. I loved programming something and seeing it work. I applied and was accepted to Cal Poly Pomona, where I majored in computer science. As I was getting deeper into the program, I decided it was time to gain real life experience and to try to find an internship. What I was finding was that the internships in the technology field were requiring languages that I was not learning in school. Some I had never heard of. I was getting very discouraged and feeling like I was never going to finish and be able to find a job in the field.
I wasn't quite ready to give up yet. I started looking for other ways to gain the knowledge I needed to achieve my goal of becoming a programmer. I found something called a coding bootcamp, then came across a bootcamp named LearningFuze. I did my research, asked my questions and found that what I would be learning was exactly what I was looking for and more. My schedule and the timing of finding this bootcamp, made it even more of a perfect fit. I entered the program and it was amazing. There I spent over 800 intensive hours learning code and developing applications. I was taught how to solve problems and to think like a programmer, so that I can succeed in a work environment. Learning was done through building applications individually and also in groups through intense two day hackathons. The biggest thing I found while going through this program was my passion for programming. It was back stronger than ever. Now I am looking to obtain a fun and challenging job where I can put my skills on display. I can't wait to help a great company and myself become even greater.
